Montana Beaver

Beaver are considered a "furbearing animal" in Montana. Only Montana residents may hunt or trap furbearers, and a license is required.

Listed below are 2012 dates. 2013 dates should be close to the same. This site will be updated with 2013 dates once they are released, which will be during the first few months of 2013. Beaver trapping dates vary by District, and there exist several areas that are closed to trapping. Generally speaking, the trapping season dates for districts 1, 2, & 3 are November 1st through April 15th, and the season dates for districts 4, 5, & 6 are September 1st through May 31st.

You may harvest an unlimited number of beaver during the trapping season, but you must check the fwp furbearer regulations before planning to trap or hunt any furbearer, predatory, or nongame animal in Montana to ensure compliance to all regulations. Furbearer Regulations are updated by FWP in mid-August each year.
