Montana Marten

Marten are considered a "furbearing animal" in Montana. Only Montana residents may hunt or trap furbearers, and a license is required.

There is no limit to the number of Marten you may harvest, but trappers are required to personally present the pelts of Marten for tagging to a designated Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) employee within ten (10) days after the close of the season.

Trapping dates vary by District, as do methods of trapping. You must check the fwp furbearer regulations before planning to trap or hunt any furbearer, predatory, or nongame animal in Montana to ensure compliance to all regulations. Furbearer Regulations are updated by FWP in mid-August each year.
